As superstition, blind belief and black magic make an entry into political arena, a forum of intellectuals from the city have come together to fight against such beliefs.

In a meeting held at Jaladarshini guest house here on Saturday, intellectuals and writers like Prof K S Bhagawan, Prof Hi Shi Ramachandra Gowda, Prof Shivaramu Kadanakuppe, Prof V N Laxminarayana and progressive thinkers Janamana Krishna and others took a dig at the growing influence of black magic and superstition. They blamed the political leaders, including the government for giving importance to blind beliefs citing Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa’s statements on alleged black magic against him. Several regional television channels are also responsible for the present scenario, they opined. Writer Joganahalli Gurumurthy, convener of the intellectuals meet against superstition said the meeting decided to start a big campaign against shedding belief in black magic and superstition. He said the intellectuals and progressive thinkers from city would strengthen campaign against these beliefs from the hobli and taluk levels. A meeting of like-minded people from these centres would be convened on the first Sunday of April to chalk out the campaign programme, he said . During the meeting, the participants expressed concern at the increasing communal and religious thoughts and black magic and superstition since the BJP came to power in the state.
