Book on communalism and terrorism released

Mangalore, Feb 9, DHNS:

''Those who divide mankind in the name of religion and caste are misanthropists,'' said noted writer and intellectual K S Bhagawan.

He was speaking after releasing the Kannada book ‘Komuvada Mathu Bhayotpadane’ edited by intellectual C N Shetty at a programme organised by Karnataka Komu Souhardha Vedike (KKSV) and Vijnana Jyothi Prakashana here on Sunday. Bhagawan said, “most of the riots and bloodshed in the world takes place in the name of gods and religions.”

What is the purpose of a religion if mankind itself is being slaughtered in the name of religion, he questioned. Hence, the protection of human being must be the primary objective of mankind, he added.

Bhagawan opined that all religious texts promote anti-human philosophy. Further, quoting Swamy Vivekananda he said, “we have to lead mankind where there is no Vedas, no Quran and no Bible.” Talking about terrorism, he said that it is a barbaric act through which the people are being deprived of their basic rights to live. “Rational thinking is the right remedy to treat communalism,” he added.

Budhism never paved way for terrorism because it does not impose doctrines on its followers. It gave freedom for the people to think about doctrines, Bhagawan said. “In our life, we need to follow principles and not the religion. Communal hatred develops in the society only because of religions,” he added.

Litterateur J H Narayanaswamy spoke on the essence of the book. Senior journalist Sanath Kumar Belagali presided over the function while C N Shetty, Popular Front of India District President Anwar Sadath and Feminist Manjula were the guests.
